The Rules Lawyer has two main weapons. First, they attempt to persuade the other players of a desired interpretation of the rules through an onslaught of evidence, textual readings, precedent, and reasoning. Should this fail, the Rules Lawyer brings out their second, and even more dreaded weapon: the filibuster. When a Rules Lawyer employs this tactic, the game grinds to a halt while rule books are read, re-read, debates ensue, players are consulted, and each point of minutia is reviewed. This strategy is best used sparingly, as it consumes a great deal of political and social capital. |
