Meta-Gaming Strategies :: The Punisher

The strategic compendium for the astute player.

Strategy The Punisher
Definition The player intentionally targets a specific opponent in response to a previous action taken against him.
Desired Result In this way, the opponent learns that crossing the player has a much greater cost than crossing other players.
Commentary This strategy is only as effective as its follow-through. Many players naturally use their discretionary moves to take out frustrations on a winning player. But the Punisher does so consciously, and with clear intent. The strength of this strategy is a function of how much short-term strategic advantage the player sacrifices in order to screw with his victim. In order for this strategy to be effective, it is critical that, at some point along the way, the victim know (1) that he is being targeted, and (2) why.
