Assumed Competence |
| Definition |
The player works to reinforce an image that he is thoroughly familiar with, skilled at, and competent in the game being played. |
| Desired Result |
In this way, he is given a wide berth, and even his weak moves are considered stronger or deeper than they actually are. |
| Commentary |
A player cannot simply adopt this strategy ad-hoc; they must have a certain reputation as either a successful game player overall, or with the specific game in question. If the player is known or assumed to be competent in one game, they can attempt to employ this strategy to gain a strategic advantage in other (probably related) games, or a general social advantage. |
