The Session |
PCs Angeles of Guernicus, Arcturus of Tytalus, Electus of Tytalus, Julius of Jerbiton, and Mateo of Verditius. NPCs A contingent of the local baron's men. Virgo 16, 1221 At the end of the night's discussion, Angeles replaced the scroll on the commander's person. Having previous CrMe'ed a desire in this man's mind to depart, the group retired. At dawn, the large bonfire which had been kept up all night was put out, and the Baron's soldiers departed along path that bore them well in sight of the city for several hours. Thus, the magi made themselves invisible and made their way to the edge of the forest. There, they halted. Electus suggested that he go forward to scout a little. It was arranged that the group would depart for the city one hour before noon. Electus then vanished... ...and appeared at the open way -- it would have been the city gates -- of Segobriga. The walls are not tall -- perhaps stacked as high as a person's height. Towers occur every so often, but are scarcely worth being called such. Inside, most of the buildings are in ruins. A large overhead aquaduct runs across the city at an angle. Electus made his way to the center of town. He passed what seemed to be a ruined marketplace to one side. To the other was a fairly intact building. In the center was what seemed to be a mosque -- but shattered and ruined. And on the other side, another intact structure. Also around, behind one of these structures, was a graveyard. Outside the city walls was an amphitheater. Electus returned to the group just before the appointed time to leave the cover of forest and make for the city, and reported his findings. When the magi reached the city, Angeles asked if they would mind him scouting the area. Thus, he raised himself from the ground, invisible still, and flew over the city casing various Intellego spells to determine vis and aura. He reported to the group the finding of but a single vis source -- in the graveyard; the vis signature itself seemed keyed to each gravestone (or something near or under it). The magical aura of the place was confirmed to be +5, but it seemed to stop at 20' of height. Angeles detected no spirits in the city. Angeles returns, after being hailed by Arcturus, and the entire group entered the city, and made its way to the center. There, explorations of the religious buildings ensued. Angeles was interested in the first building -- OOCly deemed a Curia, which had Christian symbols carved on nearby stones -- which had a curious table top. He investigated it by magical means, by means of grogs lifting it, and by communing with Terram. He found that the place was built perhaps 60 years ago, and that the current destruction which shattered its windows and the like happened 12 years ago. He also found a slight Dominion aura. Meanwhile, the others investigated the other fairly intact building. The foyer entered into a long hall, which seemed to have places for stone benches -- but where the benches would have been, they were sheared off, leaving pairs of discolored patches leading up the hall all the way to a dias, which was now vacant of anything. Behind the dias, stairs led up to a door, which opened onto a platform or balcony, which overlooked the ruins of the market. In the main hall of this "Basilica" (as it was OOCly known to be called), candelabra or chandeliers were attached to the ceiling in sets of three, from front to back. All, though, of course, was darkness. Angeles, after some hours of communing with the glass in the Curia, entered the mosque, which is in the very center of town, at the intersection of roads. Inside, the Islamic writings carved into the wall were defiled. A slight "Islamic aura" was detected by Angeles, as well. The others met up with Angeles at this point, who recounts his findings about the age of the Curia. Arcturus noted that 12 years places the destruction in the window of time between the last Tribunal Segobriga (Prima) Covenant attended, and the first they missed. As the day grew late, the group moved to other buildings. They found a Baths, which was an open-air ruin with obvious holes for water delivery. Immediately nearby was a structure of arches called a Faux Columbarium, apparently. The group then makes camp. Angeles suggested that the Amphitheater be considered as a campsite, but others thought that camping in an area already explored would be prudent. And so camp was made near the center of the city. But Angeles and Electus made plans to visit the graveyard that night, and Mateo also showed interest. Arcturus agreed to send his grog along, but choose, himself, not to attend. And the sun set on the first day at Segobriga. |
